To ensure that our produce is the best quality (and up to snuff with the standards), we use a 3rd party lab to audit and monitor our processes to maintain our GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) certification. Since we plant, grow, harvest, cool, and deliver, we monitor everything from water testing to the training of the crew.
A large part of the GFSI is being able to trace individual produce items back to their source. We document and maintain documentation for everything we do. When a customer picks up a head of broccoli from the store, we can tell him what field it was planted in and the history of that field; who drove the planter that day, who harvested the crop, the driver that delivered it, and many small processes in between.
This kind of monitoring has been going on for a very long time, but over the last 20 years, we now have documentation for all of it.
We have policies and processes in place to keep the farm running smoothly. To check ourselves, a 3rd party comes out to inspect those processes and ensure that we’re following our own set of standards.
